For over a decade there have been numerous conversations across Canada’s music industry, discussing the lack of Black presence in companies and organizations that support world-class Black artists from Canada. Following the 2018 JUNO Awards, where Daniel Caesar won R&B Recording, and Jessie Reyez won Breakout Artist of the Year, three industry veterans decided to make concrete movements towards change. Founding members Vivian Barclay, Craig Mannix and Miro Oballa, each with about 30 years of experience in the Canadian industry; met, planned, and strategized ways to increase Black presence in their organizations, and ultimately seeing the upward mobility of Black people, to decision-making positions.
